Artwork is the input
Prepare the current logo version, color references, desired location and intended size. Ask which source format the selected decoration process requires. Keep fonts and linked assets under control where an editable source is needed.
Small text, thin lines and contrast need review at the intended imprint size. A large image file or an attractive screen preview does not establish that the artwork is ready for the chosen product and method.
A virtual proof checks the proposed layout
Use the proof to review the logo version, spelling, placement, stated size and decoration notes. Confirm the product and color shown or identified, and make sure the person approving it understands the scope.
A digital proof does not establish the product's feel, construction or exact physical color. If one of those details matters to the decision, request an appropriate physical check rather than assuming the screen view answers it.
A physical sample checks the item represented
A standard sample can help you assess dimensions, handling, materials or construction. Confirm which product, color and configuration it represents. An undecorated sample does not show the finished imprint.
If the combination of product and decoration is the concern, ask whether a configured pre-production sample is available and exactly what it would include. Do not assume that every product or order supports that option.
- Identify the question the sample should answer.
- Confirm whether the sample is blank or decorated, and whether it matches the intended configuration.
- Confirm sample availability, cost and schedule before including it in the plan.
Record the approval and its limits
Keep the approved version, the approver and the details reviewed together. Record any changes or limitations that remain open. Approval of a layout should not be used as evidence that an untested physical characteristic has been accepted.
Balance the required check with the time remaining for review and correction. A sample request does not itself reserve stock or establish a production or delivery date.
Continue planning
- Review artwork file preparation
- Add artwork and approval details to your brief
- Use the samples and proofs checklist
Availability, costs, decoration and delivery arrangements require confirmation for the selected product and order.
